How much money do you
need at a festival?

Not an estimate, but what visitors really spent, entered during the festival itself.

An average of €80.81 per person on drinks. That's what visitors to Lowlands 2026 spent over the whole weekend, over €24 per festival day. The median was lower, at €64.63, because a small group of heavy drinkers pulls the average up. And that's exactly why splitting equally ends up lopsided.

What visitors really spent

Lowlands 2026 · drinks only, per person

Over the whole weekendAmount
Average€80.81
Median the middle visitor€64.63
Middle half from 25% to 75%€19 to €115
Highest individual amount€359.15
Per festival day€24.13

These amounts are for drinks only. Food, camping, travel and tickets aren't included, so what you really need is higher. They're also people who use an app to track rounds, which probably over-represents drinkers. So take the amounts as a minimum, not as a final total.

Why the average is above the median. Half of the visitors stayed under €65, while the heaviest drinker reached €359. In a group of ten that can quickly mean a hundred euros between the lightest and the heaviest drinker. If you then split the bill equally, the water drinker chips in for someone else's pitchers.

What drinks cost

You now know roughly what you'll spend. What you don't know is who owes what to whom at the end. Because cashless means that whoever gets the round pays for the whole group.

Per festival: cashless or tokens?

With drink tokens (muntjes, bought at the festival and swapped for drinks at the bar), everyone used to buy their own strip. Cashless means one card goes over the counter for the whole round, so someone has to pay up front.

Why cashless makes splitting harder

With tokens, everyone bought their own strip and used it to pay for their own drinks. With cashless, one card goes over the counter for a whole round. That's quicker at the bar, but it means someone always pays up front. After three days nobody remembers how much.
Splitting equally is then the easy way out, but not the fair one. The middle half of Lowlands visitors spent between €19 and €115. If you only drank water and cola, splitting equally means you chip in for someone else's pitchers.

Frequently asked questions

How much money should I take to a festival?

For drinks alone, visitors to Lowlands 2026 came to an average of €80.81 over three days, over €24 a day. Half stayed under €65. Add food, travel and camping on top. Now that almost all big festivals are cashless, you don't need to bring cash: you pay by debit card or phone.

Which Dutch festivals are cashless?

Lowlands and Pinkpop switched to cashless in 2025 and no longer have tokens. Best Kept Secret and Down the Rabbit Hole are cashless too. Zwarte Cross still uses tokens, which you buy at a token sales point with cash or debit card.

How do you split drink costs fairly in a group?

With FestiDrinkz you record who ordered what for each round. That way someone who only drank water doesn't chip in for the pitchers. At the end the app works out who owes whom how much, with as few transfers as possible. Free, no account, and you share a link with your campsite crew.

Does FestiDrinkz work when the festival network is overloaded?

Yes. On a packed festival site you often see signal, but nothing gets through. If saving a round or expense doesn't work within a few seconds, FestiDrinkz keeps it on your phone and sends it automatically as soon as the network is back, even if that's not until you're on your way home. Each round is only recorded once, so you don't need to enter anything again. If a page won't load, you'll see the last saved balance of your group. Do open FestiDrinkz once with good signal; scanning a menu or price list only works with signal.

Where do these festival amounts come from?

From FestiDrinkz users who recorded who drank what and what it cost, round by round, during Lowlands 2026. The amounts are for drinks only; food and general costs aren't included. Prices and amounts are subject to change.

About this page: the amounts come from rounds entered by FestiDrinkz users during Lowlands 2026. Festival dates and payment methods were checked with the organisers themselves. Dates of future editions may change. Last updated on 25 August 2026.
