Getting rounds
without drink tokens

Dutch festivals used to run on drink tokens (muntjes), swapped for drinks at the bar. The tokens are gone, but the rounds aren't. Here's how to track who drank what.

Free · no account · ready in a minute

Then and now

Then · everyone hands in a tokendone
Now · one person pays for the whole round by cardand then?

With tokens, everyone paid for their own drink, even if someone else went to the bar. With card payments someone different pays up front each time, and after a day nobody knows where things stand.

Why this became a problem

🪙 The token sorted it out. Anyone drinking handed one in, so the split added up by itself
💳 Paying by card doesn't. Each time, one person pays for the whole group
🤔 A tally only half works. You count rounds, but not what was in those rounds
⚖ An equal split is lopsided. A speciality beer costs almost twice as much as a water
📸 Reconstructing it afterwards doesn't work. After three days nobody remembers exactly
😢 Arguments afterwards. Whoever stopped early chips in for the rest of the night
📶 Network overloaded? Your round is saved on your phone and sent automatically as soon as it can be. Never twice, never lost.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get a round at a festival without tokens?

One of the group pays for the whole round by card and the others pay them back afterwards. That works fine, as long as you keep track of who had what. With FestiDrinkz you record for each round who ordered which drink and who paid. At the end you see exactly who still owes whom what.

Why have festival tokens disappeared?

They cost money to make, create waste and cause extra queues at the token sales points. Visitors also often end up with leftover tokens they never cash in. Card and contactless payments are cheaper and quicker for organisers.

Does FestiDrinkz work when the festival network is overloaded?

Yes. On a packed festival site you often see signal, but nothing gets through. If saving a round or expense doesn't work within a few seconds, FestiDrinkz keeps it on your phone and sends it automatically as soon as the network is back, even if that's not until you're on your way home. Each round is only recorded once, so you don't need to enter anything again. If a page won't load, you'll see the last saved balance of your group. Do open FestiDrinkz once with good signal; scanning a menu or price list only works with signal.

Why doesn't an equal split work well at a festival?

Because not everyone drinks the same. At Lowlands 2026 a small beer costs €3.95 and a speciality beer almost seven euros. Anyone who only drinks water or stops after two rounds pays heavily towards the rest of the day with an equal split.

Does everyone in the group have to install an app?

No. You share a link or QR code and everyone joins straight away in the browser, with no account and no installation. Anyone who wants can download the app, but they don't have to. That way nobody has to be the accountant all day either.

Already in a group of friends?
You don't need to create anything. Ask whoever started the group for the share link, then you're in straight away.
